New routes through the city downtown will soon become available.

Tram lines are being built at Sergiya Radonezhskogo Street and at Prospekt Akademika Sakharova, while tracks at Trifonovskaya Street are undergoing reconstruction, says Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Moscow Mayor for Transport.

“This May, Moscow metro staff started laying tram tracks along Trifonovskaya Street; by now, the line has been restored by over 30 per cent. In 2025, after a break of 30 years, trams will be running there again. Plans for this year include launching a new line at Sergiya Radonezhskogo Street; for 2025-at Prospekt Akademika Sakharova. As instructed by Sergei Sobyanin, we are developing our tram network for better passenger comfort,” says Mr Liksutov.

In the future, the Trifonovskaya Street line will connect Rizhsky Train Station to the downtown; a new section between Ploshchad Ilyicha metro station and Andronyevskaya Square will help open a direct way down Entuziastov Motorway to Kursky Train Station.

The line at Prospekt Akademika Sakharova will connect the Three Stations Square with Chistoprudny Boulevard. Passengers will get new direct routes through Moscow downtown.

Moscow tram cars are a modern, green and convenient transport mode with a proven effectiveness for the rapidly developing mega-city. Right now, Moscow has 35 tram lines that carry about 700,000 passengers every weekday outside of the peak vacation season. The number of passengers is growing. Thanks to convenient transfers, dedicated lines separated from motorways, and great infrastructure, trams are gradually getting absorbed by Moscow’s rail network, complementing metro lines, the Moscow Central Circle, and Moscow Central Diameters.
