Opera outdoors: Summer concert season kicks off at Petroff Palace

The summer culture project “Opera Evenings Under the Open Sky” has kicked off at the Petroff Palace. On the lawn in front of the palace, Bolshoi Theatre soloists sang to the accompaniment of an instrumental sextet. The singers included People’s Artists of Russia Yelena Zelenskaya (soprano) and Alexander Naumenko (bass), Merited Artist of Russia Alexandra Durseneva (mezzo-soprano), Maxim Paster (tenor), Vsevolod Grivnov (tenor) and Darya Zykova (soprano). They performed classical works by Glinka, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and other famous composers.

Opera concerts will be held at the Petroff Palace every Wednesday through 7 September.
An exhibition of Vladimir Vasilyev’s paintings is on display in the palace’s restaurant. The artist has been globally recognised as an outstanding 20th century dancer. Visitors will see landscapes of the places in Russia and abroad where Vladimir Vasilyev has travelled. The famous dancer made nearly 600 paintings in oil, watercolour and using a mixed method technique. They were shown in Moscow, St Petersburg, Perm, Pskov, Uglich, Sarov, Lithuania, France, Bulgaria and Brazil.
