The new Ferris wheel will be put up to the left of the southern entrance to VDNKh and replace the current Pavilion #7 named “Seeds” dating back to 1978 and having no architectural value. Moscow’s Urban Planning and Land Use Commission approved the construction project at its session chaired by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
The new Ferris wheel will have sealed passenger capsules to provide safety and comfort to its riders, including in poor weather conditions. The wheel will be 135 metress high, the largest in Russia and one of the largest in the world: the High Roller in Las Vegas is 167 metres high, the Singapore Flyer is 165 metres and the London Eye reaches 135 metres.
Apart from the Ferris wheel, park visitors will be able to walk along a sheltered pedestrian zone, watch a film in the cinema and an exposition in the wax museum, pop into thematic and souvenir shops, visit cafes and restaurants. There will also be a cloakroom and tickets office.
The project will also include a multi-storey car park for 1,000 cars.
The Ferris wheel will be the focal point for the new VDNKh Park of the Future – a modern amusement park that will come to replace the outdated one there now.
