First Cloud City BRICS International Innovation Forum assembles over 5,000 participants from more than 30 countries

Experts have discussed how next-gen technologies are changing the lives of people.

The BRICS International Innovation Forum, which was held in Moscow, brought together over 5,000 people from more than 30 countries, including China, India, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, South Africa, etc., said Natalya Sergunina, Deputy Moscow Mayor.

The event took place on August 27–29 as part of the Moscow Urban Forum (MUF) at the Zaryadye Concert Hall, highlighting experts, mayors and heads of governmental agencies/departments from Russia, other BRICS countries, Asia and the Middle East who discussed how next-gen technologies were changing the lives of people in megacities, evaluated the best IT solutions for the public sector and the business community, and shared their experience in supporting innovators in their respective countries.

“The first BRICS Innovation Forum brought together like-minded people from dozens of countries. About 300 Russian and overseas experts took part in 50 themed sessions. They signed a number of agreements, including the Moscow Declaration of Innovative Development. Summing up, I can say that those three days helped us outline further steps towards technological cooperation,” said Natalya Sergunina.

The foreign speakers included Nobel Peace Prize winners, namely, Prof. Muhammad Yunus and Mr. Rae Kwon Chung, Chairman of the International Award Committee for the Global Energy Prize, as well as film director Emir Kusturica, Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr, Chairwoman of the Dubai Future Council for Digital Operations and a visionary keen on megacities of the future, Khaled El Attar, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director at BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and other experts.

The Moscow Government won the World Innovation Award for driving technology and the city’s digital ecosystem, while Natalya Sergunina was named a winner in a core category for Innovations, Industries, Infrastructure; the World Innovation Award is awarded for a significant contribution to the achievement of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals in seven categories.

The Moscow Innovation Cluster, members of governmental agencies and related organizations from 10 countries signed the Moscow Declaration of Innovative Development encompassing cooperation in multiple areas from improving digital ecosystems to introducing advanced developments to sharing best practices in addition to business partnerships; the discussions were broadcast live.

The Cloud City BRICS International Innovation Forum brought together mayors, ministers and heads of governmental agencies/departments in Russia, other BRICS countries, Asia and the Middle East, as well as representatives of think tanks, high-tech companies and industry experts to have become a major event in international urban studies.
