Specialists used about 10 types of natural stone and a man-made material, engineered quartz; installed panels made of aluminum, stainless steel and matte terrazzo tiles, as well as laminated triplex safety glass.

The individual architectural elements of many Big Circle Line stations were created, among other things with non-standard finishing materials. Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Moscow Mayor for Urban Planning Policy and Construction, announced this.

“Glass fiber reinforced concrete was used at Terekhovo Station, a new material for metro construction that enhances the artistic expression of the object, and man-made engineered quartz was used at Vorontsovskaya and Novatorskaya metro stations for the first time in the history of the Moscow Metro. This material is durable and wear-resistant, and allows using many colors when finishing,” said Andrey Bochkarev.

About 10 types of natural stone were used to finish the stations. Three types of Sayan marble, Polotsk marble and dark brown Baltic granite were used when facing the walls. Gabbro and labradorite were used to decorate the walls and floors of the new stations. Siberian, Shimanovsky and Kambulatovsky granite were also selected as the flooring material.

Yuri Kravtsov, Director General of Mosinzhproekt JSC, added that panels made of aluminum, stainless steel and matte terrazzo tiles were used to finish the ceilings. “For the first time in the history of the Moscow Metro, glass was used as a finishing ceiling material at Novatorskaya Station. The suspended ceiling consists of multi-format triplex panels with colored film in three shades of orange. This utilizes optical properties: reflection and refraction,” said Yuri Kravtsov.

In addition to unique materials, the BCL stations feature unique finishing technologies. A special stone intarsia technique was used to decorate the ticket hall of Nagatinsky Zaton Station: fish images were made in a marble support with recesses filled with paint. In addition to the unique material, digital concrete printing was used for the first time in the Metro: silhouette images of human figures appeared on the columns at Terekhovo Station.

The BCL is the major metro construction project In Russia. It is 70 kilometers long and has 31 stations. The Big Circle Line connects the existing and future lines of the Moscow Metro as well as MCC and MCD platforms.
