Electric Vehicles Manufacturing Rus became a resident of the Technopolis Moscow special economic zone and is preparing to open a plant for the production of innovative electric trucks. In August, the company and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation signed a special investment contract. Under its terms, the manufacturer agrees to implement the investment project within four years and six months, and the state undertakes to ensure the stability of the business.
Locating production in a special economic zone will allow the company to save on taxes. Residents are exempt from property, transport and land taxes, as well as from customs duties. Moreover, their property tax rate is set at just two per cent.
"The company has invested more than RUB 300 million in the development of a Russian electric truck. The enterprise was provided with ready-made premises in the Russian capital's special economic zone and all the conditions for the implementation of a successful financial development model. Now the plant is at the final stage of preparation for launch," said Vladimir Yefimov, Deputy Moscow Mayor for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations.
According to him, the company has introduced about 30 of its own innovative solutions in production, which relate to power electronics, control systems, battery design, and other engineering systems.
The electric cargo vehicle is designed on the basis of the UAZ Profi chassis, has a load capacity of up to one ton, and can travel up to 300 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicle is focused on use in the segment of retail, logistics, delivery, housing and utilities, and other areas. The vehicle does not pollute the environment. For comparison, a similar car with an internal combustion engine emits more than 10 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year.
"The company will produce onboard electronics and electric motors, bringing localization to almost 100 percent. In-house developments allowed the company to refuse from the purchase of European equipment, to design a full cycle production with minimal dependence on external suppliers," said Vladislav Ovchinsky, Head of the Moscow Department of Investment and Industrial Policy.
Gennady Degtev, General Director of the Technopolis Moscow SEZ, specified that the equipment is being installed at the plant now. Once the production is launched, Moscow's special economic zone may become one of the centers for creating domestic electric transport, since the enterprise's developments are applicable to the country's industry as a whole.
The Technopolis Moscow SEZ is an area enjoying a special legal status that offers preferential business conditions to investors. The five sites (Pechatniki, Alabushevo, Micron, MIET, Angstrem) include high-tech SEZ companies and cover more than 223 hectares. The production facilities take up 550,000 square meters in total. The total investments of the Moscow SEZ resident companies exceed RUB 80 billion. The Technopolis Moscow SEZ has been topping international and national industry ratings for several years.
