City festival to take place on Moscow Day, September 9-11

The Moscow Day, celebrating 875 years of Moscow, will take place on September 9, 10 and 11. Festival venues will open all over Moscow. Everyone will have a chance to attend a master class, watch performances, taste dishes made by seasoned chefs or watch favorite movies. Visitors are also welcome to meet Russian designers and look at Moscow as artists see it.

“There are traditional venues right downtown. We also have lots of venues in the administrative districts where festivities will also take place. We would particularly like to emphasize that an extensive program has been prepared at VDNKh for those days. Festival venues in administrative districts will host over 500 hours of master classes, gastronomy shows, performances by famous singers like Uma2rman, Valeria, Zhigan, etc.,” revealed Alexei Nemeryuk, Moscow Government Minister, Head of the Moscow Department of Trade and Services.

Public festivities will also take place on Tverskaya Street. There, they are going to present an extensive celebratory program called Moscow on the Move. “We’re going to do our best to tell Muscovites and tourists about all the interesting things happening in our city and all the new developments,” added Mr. Nemeryuk.

Venues downtown

On Revolution Square, everyone will have a chance to learn about design and modeling. Visitors will be invited to design their own Metro car to celebrate Moscow’s birthday, make headwear inspired by Moscow City towers, fantasize about transport of the future and learn the basics of architectural design.

Tverskaya Square will be the place for artists and those dreaming to become one. There, everyone will have a chance to learn the secrets of landscape painting, get an introduction to Arkhip Kuindzhi’s art, see Moscow through the eyes of other famous painters, or paint their own gala mask following folk arts’ traditions.

Tverskaya Street will be divided into four sections. The first one will be dedicated to the Moskva River, the point where Moscow history started. The second one will be about the transport of Moscow. The third one – about modern production and fashion industry. And the last section is going to explain everyone how Moscow has managed to persevere as the heart of the Russian land throughout centuries.

Tverskoy Boulevard is going to have all things fashionable, fascinating and original on offer. 90 Russian fashion designers will present their capsule and special collections dedicated to Moscow. There, everyone will be able to buy original jewelry, household or pet items, listen to presentations on fashion and style, get advice from seasoned make-up artists or get a stylish haircut. The final of Moscow Seasons chess cup will take place on Tverskoy Boulevard on September 11.

Venues in administrative districts

For three days, venues in administrative districts are going to host educational, creative and culinary master classes. Visitors will learn how to paint Moscow landscapes, see stage shows and cheer for competitors in the chess tournament.

Culinary club on Tyoply Stan Street is going to reveal the secrets of popular Moscow desserts. Transport bureau on Khachaturiana Street will hold a public talk on basics of architectural design and help volunteers make an electric bus model. On 16th Miscrodistrict Boulevard in Zelenograd, guests will have a chance to discover interesting tidbits from Moscow’s music and stage life. The venue on Klyuchevaya Street will attract those interested in the history of Moscow transport. Meanwhile people visiting Profsoyuznaya Street will find themselves in a veritable architecture design office.

19 venues in administrative districts are going to host culinary shows: chefs will show their skills cooking in traditional ovens and special Ofyr grills. Everyone is free to write their recipes down in order to later surprise their families and friends with Moscow mushroom shchi, Kara-style meat on skewers, Moscow solyanka or eggplant meatballs, Pozharsky cutlets or a salmon stuffed coulibiac.

In the evenings 20 venues in administrative districts will offer open-air Soviet and Russian movie runs.

Park festivities

On September 10 and 11, Zaryadye Park will present key Moscow projects: My District, Healthy Moscow, Moscow Longevity, Moscow Museums, Biblio-city, Street Artist, Sports on Weekends and Moscow Seasons. Graduation’22 and Visages exhibitions will be focused on them. Visitors should also expect a music program, street processions, animated shows, sports sessions, movie runs, a book fair, presentations and master classes, as well as the Blooming Wave planted specifically for Moscow Day.

VDNKh will show horseback stunts by riders from the Kremlin Riding School, a classic car rally, a skateboarding competition, Traveling in Color street art festival, etc. The green theater is going to host a romantic musical stage performance, the Museum City will offer guided tours and master classes, while the Moscow City Scale Model Pavilion will light up the sky with a light show. There are also special offers and culinary novelties waiting for guests of VDNKh.

Festive programs, music shows and fireworks are also planned for other Moscow parks. They will feature musicians and actors from Moscow theaters, orchestral music and jazz, movie songs and pop tunes from the Soviet times.
