Students of Moscow arts schools win the Sounds of Voice vocals competition

The gala show and awards ceremony for the winners of the 5th National Sound of Voice competition took place in the grand hall of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music. The competition for over 400 young musicians from Moscow and Moscow region, Tula, Yaroslavl, Syktyvkar and other cities, took place on March 18-27.

The panel of judges chose the winners in five categories: pop and jazz, academic vocals, folk performance (vocals), folk singing (vocals), and Arts for Children: Folklore Olympiad.

Students of Moscow arts schools won in the folk performance (vocals) and folk singing (vocals) categories. In addition to 1st grade Laureate diplomas, David Delezhanov, a 4th grade student at V. Safonov children’s music school and  Veronika Zhabina, a 5th grade student in children’s music school No.82 got an opportunity to directly enter the third round of the competition for Moscow Mayor’s culture and art grants.

In addition, kids from Moscow took part in the gala show. Alisa Dikkert,  Eryoma folk band, David Delezhanov, Veronika Zhabina, Rada folk band, Polina Pukhova, Tatiana Artsrumian, Arnas Pukhov, boy band from Arts School and Children’s Music Theatre (Reutov), Anzhelika Avtayeva, Damir Sorokin, Yulia Lazareva and Natalia Ilyina-Korchagina’s jazz quartet were all among the performers. They presented their competition pieces. The judge panel members – Tatiana Semushina, Maria Molchanova, Konstantin Nekrasov, etc. – also took the stage with them.

The national Sound of Voice vocals competition was started in 2016 by the Phoenix children’s arts school, supported by the Moscow Department of Culture and Directorate for Educational Programs in Arts and Culture. It aims to support talented children and youth from various Russian regions, to facilitate artistic growth and development for talented performers.
