The Novatorskaya-Kommunarka segment is already completed.

Tunneling for the future Troitskaya metro line will be completed at the end of the year, as Sergei Sobyanin announced on his Telegram channel.

Metro builders have already completed the Novatorskaya-Kommunarka segment. They have also connected Novatorskaya, Akademicheskaya, and Vavilovskaya stations,” the Moscow Mayor informed.

The tunneling machines known as Aleksandra and Sofia started operating on the painstaking site between ZIL and Krymskaya stations in August-September last year, and each run about 800 meters out of expected 1.8 kilometers. The tunnel section beneath the Moscow River is also ready, though excavations under Paveletsky railway tracks are to be done yet.

Between Akademicheskaya and Krymskaya stations, tunnel shields called Natalia and Svetlana are used, which have gone more than 1,450 and 1,250 meters, respectively, each of them is to excavate 2.24 km of tunnels.

Construction of the Troitskaya line involves using technology, which is common to the Moscow metro, namely, building two single-track tunnels with a diameter of six meters each. The tunneling machines operated here have been also used for other metro lines, including BCL, Nekrasovskaya, Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya, Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya, Kalininskaya, etc.

“We will launch the ZIL-Kommunarka segment of the Troitskaya line as soon as in the next year. New metro stations shall improve transport accessibility for more than one million residents in 11 districts and two settlements of Moscow,” Sergei Sobyanin claimed.

Indeed, the new metro line will relieve traffic on the southern segments of the Sokolnicheskaya and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya lines in addition to Kaluzhskoye Motorway.
