Sergei Sobyanin on developing three areas in the south of Moscow
Social facilities and residential buildings are being built, public spaces are being improved, and new metro stations are opening in the Nagatinsky Zaton, Nagatino-Sadovniki and Nagorny areas.

Nagatinsky Zaton, Nagatino-Sadovniki and Nagorny are areas located in the Southern Administrative District, where 280,000 people live. In recent years, Moscow major projects have been implemented that are changing the whole city for the better and benefiting local residents.

Last week, the Southern River Station opened in Nagatinsky Zaton after being reconstructed. After 25 years, pleasure boats and cruise ships sail from and to the station again. You can travel to Ryazan, Murom, Kasimov, Nizhny Novgorod, Cheboksary, Kazan and Ufa from the station. In addition, this year, the station will become a stop of the regular passenger river route “Avtozavodsky Bridge-Pechatniki”. Passengers will be transported by modern electric ships, which are being tested today.

“Of course, the station building itself is comfortable and exciting. In good weather, Moscow residents and visitors can come here just to relax on the rooftop deck, which offers picturesque views of the Moskva River, the Dream Island amusement park and the landscaped embankment with renovated piers. Visiting a new space of the Moscow Transport Museum, which opened at the Southern River Station with the first exhibition called Moscow Passenger River, will be a wonderful experience”, Sergei Sobyanin noted.

We have arranged four more ground transport routes and installed over 120 modern stop pavilions in the Southern districts of the city. The reconstruction of Varshavskoye and Kashirskoye motorways has been completed. As part of the construction of the Southern Lateral Road, specialists have reconstructed Balaklavsky Prospekt from Sevastopolsky Prospekt to Varshavskoye Motorway. In addition, the Kozhukhovsky Bridge and a pedestrian crossing with a travellator from the Teknnopark metro station through Andropova Prospekt have been built. They improve the transport accessibility of Nagatinsky Zaton and provide convenient routes for visitors to the Dream Island amusement park. In the near future, a new pedestrian bridge will connect the Nagatinsky Zaton BCL station with Rechnikov Street.

To ensure the safety of pedestrians, 100 ground crossings; 44 bike racks and 18 bike rental stations have been arranged.

Public spaces

New public recreational spaces are being created in the south of Moscow.

“In just a few years, the largest recreation and entertainment center, including the Dream Island amusement park, the city’s promenade and the Moskva Concert Hall, was built in a depressed area of the Nagatinskaya floodplain. An adjacent landscape park to play, do sports and practice yoga has been arranged. In the warm season, welcome to the outdoor cinema and recreation area near ornamental ponds,” said Sergei Sobyanin.

A yacht club with a wakeboard park opened in the northern part of the park. Reversible winches for wakeboarding and springboards for practicing jumps and tricks are available to water sports enthusiasts. The Dream Island Park is to be developed to include an open-air extreme amusement park and a large swimming pool.

In addition, over a dozen local parks, squares and public spaces have been landscaped in the Nagatinsky Zaton, Nagatino-Sadovniki and Nagorny areas. They include the pedestrian area on Kolomenskaya Embankment, the Luzhkov Park, Veterans’ Square, squares on Bolotnikovskaya Street and Simferopolsky Boulevard, as well as the yard space on Nagatinskaya Embankment (60/4).

This year, more than 40 yards and several famous landmarks will be renovated, including the floodplain of the Zhuzha River. Specialists will clear the river bed and arrange a walking route along it. There will be sports and children’s areas; one of them called “The Robber’s Lair” will be thematic. This name is associated with a local legend. Places for quiet rest and dog walking will be also available.

Social infrastructure

High-quality and affordable social infrastructure is another priority for the development of Nagatinsky Zaton, Nagorny and Nagatino-Sadovniki areas.

A children’s and adult polyclinic was built and opened on Rechnikov Street, including a women’s medical center with 750 visits per day. Three buildings underwent a comprehensive reconstruction. These are branch No. 1 of children’s polyclinic No. 129 (1/2 Yaltinskaya Street), branch No. 3 of children’s city polyclinic No. 91 (14/2 Kolomenskaya Embankment) and branch No. 3 of polyclinic No. 2 (10 Yaltinskaya Street).

Similar work is under way in two more primary care institutions: branch No. 1 of polyclinic No. 67 (19 Vysokaya Street) and polyclinic department No. 1 of Yudin City Clinical Hospital (3 Akademika Millionshchikova Street).

The network of educational institutions now includes three more kindergartens and two more schools. A comfortable space for playing games, learning, being involved in creative activities and socializing has been created in the new kindergartens at 49/2 Varshavskoye Motorway, 35/1 Andropova Prospekt and 11 a Korabelnaya Street. A new school with a stadium has been built nearby (13 a Korabelnaya Street). An elementary school with a preschool department has opened at 16/6 Elektrolitny Proyezd. Another institution is being built at 9/2 Andropova Prospekt.

Thanks to the Art for Children project, facilities and resources of the creative education system have been updated. Gilels children’s music school at 1/2 Chernomorsky Boulevard and Karaev children’s music school at 54 Nagatinskaya Embankment have been renovated.

Renovated Library No. 162 at 5 Yakornaya Street has become a good place to socialize and hold cultural events. The Orbita multifunctional public center at 27 Andropova Prospekt and the Angara center at 7 Chongarsky Boulevard have also become new popular spots for residents.

The Nagatinsky branch of Bereginya family center opened in the south of the Russian capital, located at 44/1 Nagatinskaya Embankment. The center’s specialists provide assistance and support to children from a deprived background.

“This year, we plan to open a new My Documents public service center located at 5 b/6 Elektrolitny Proyezd in the Nagorny district. Now, residents of the district have to visit the office located in the Nagatino-Sadovniki area on the other side of Varshavskoye Motorway, which is inconvenient. The Moscow Longevity center of the Nagatinsky Zaton area located at 34 Nagatinskaya Embankment will open its doors to elderly people,” added Sergei Sobyanin.

A new point on the sports map of the Southern Administrative District is the Kant sports center available to Muscovites all year round. The center is especially popular in winter. From 1,500 to 5,000 people visit it daily during this period. In addition, a sports and recreation center for people with disabilities has been built at 15 a Kolomensky Proyezd.

Commerce

Thanks to the large-scale reconstruction, the Moskvoretsky market has also changed. Now it features food stalls, food courts offering specialties and family shopping areas.

The inter-regional fair at 16 a Elektrolitny Proyezd is also popular with Moscow residents.

Renovation program

In 2018, the first house built under the renovation program welcomed its first residents in Nagatinsky Zaton. The building is located at 17 Sudostroitelnaya Street.

Today, residents of the old five-story buildings in the Nagatinsky Zaton and Nagorny districts are moving to another five new buildings located at 3 Sudostroitelnaya Street, 7/1 Simferopolsky Proyezd, 100/1 Varshavskoe Motorway, 22 and 18/20 Rechnikov Street.

Almost 29,000 people from 129 houses are to be resettled In these districts developed in the 1960 s and 1970 s.

Reorganizing former industrial areas

Abandoned or inefficiently used territories are a resource to develop the areas. A section of the former Varshavskoye Motorway industrial area in Nagorny is being reorganized. As part of the integrated development, 500,000 square meters of real estate are to be erected. These are innovation centers, offices, hotels, shops, banks and cafes. Thanks to the project, more than 12,000 jobs will be created.

“Nagatinsky Zaton, Nagatino-Sadovniki and Nagorny are Moscow districts with a rich history, which are dynamically developing and becoming more convenient,” noted the Moscow Mayor.
