On February 17, the Moscow Maslenitsa traditional street festival opened. The events will run until February 26. Sergei Sobyanin invited Muscovites and guests of the Russian capital to welcome spring at 23 festival venues on his blog.

“Like in previous years, the guests of the festival will enjoy a real gastronomic abundance. Cafes and restaurants will have a huge selection of food,” wrote the Moscow Mayor.

Visitors can taste more than 50 types of pancakes, from traditional to the most unusual recipes, at the Moscow Maslenitsa venues. In addition, guests can choose from more than 30 types of cheese, 50 types of fish and 100 types of meat delicacies.

“Everyone interested can both try pancakes and learn how to cook them. More than 2,000 cooking and art masterclasses, about 250 grilling and baking shows are planned. A special cooking and traditional craft program has been prepared for children,” Sergei Sobyanin said.

According to him, the festival's entertainment program includes performances of folk ensembles, folk groups and Cossack choirs. Ice rinks with locker rooms and rental services will open at 19 festival venues. The guests can donate cloths and gifts to participants in a special military operation in the special chalets of the Moscow Helps program.

Defender of the Fatherland Day will be celebrated with masterclasses telling visitors how to make postcards and letters. A video workshop will open in Gorky Park to wish a happy Defender of the Fatherland Day.

“I invite you, my friends, to the festival venues in the center and districts of Moscow. May the coming of spring bring you joy and kindness,” wrote the Moscow Mayor.
