New bike-sharing stations open in Moscow

A city bike-sharing opened in Moscow. This year, more than 7,500 bicycles, including 500 electric ones, and over 720 stations will be available to Velobike users. Sergei Sobyanin announced it on his Telegram channel.

Bicycles are popular in summer. 60 per cent of trips are made to subway stations, offices, and homes. Since its launch in 2013, residents and tourists in Moscow have done 25 million rides covering 80 million kilometers.

For the first time this season bikes will be orange. This color is usually used for carsharing and electric scooter sharing. A uniform style will help users identify that this is a city service that is safe and reliable.

The network of bike-sharing is expanding each year. New stations appear in new areas in Moscow and beyond the Moscow Ring Road. Last year, the network operated in 94 areas of the city with, new stations being opened in Zelenograd, Troitsk, and Izmailovo. This year, it is planned to continue opening new stations in different areas of Moscow. For example, in Skolkovo. Moreover, more than 7,500 bikes will be available, 500 of which will be electric bikes. Over 720 sharing stations will operate in the city. The tariffs will remain the same as last year.

The Moscow Government will provide support to Velobike, the network operator, to keep the bicycle fleet constantly updated. Most of them are already prepared for the season.
