Moscow received awards of the world stage twice — in 2019 and 2020.

Moscow became a leader in two nominations of the international World Travel Awards 2021. The capital is recognized as the best destination for a city break (World's Leading City Break Destination2021) and the best tourist destination for studying historical heritage — 2021 (World's Leading Heritage City Destination 2021). Sergei Sobyanin wrote about this on the VKontakte social network page.

The results were announced online on the website awards.

In addition, the Two Cities — Million Impressions joint project of Moscow and St. Petersburg received a special prize for the collaborative promotion of domestic tourism — Leading collaborative promotion of domestic tourism ‘Two Cities - Million Impressions’ (Moscow & Saint Petersburg).

This year Moscow was represented in nine nominations of the World TravelAwards world stage, such as:

— World's Leading Business Travel Destination2021;

— World's Leading City Break Destination 2021;

— World's Leading City Destination 2021;

— World's Leading City Tourist Board2021;

The contest takes place in two stages: first, the results of the regional (European) stage are summarized, and then — those of the world stage. Moscow became a laureate in two nominations at the European level too — Europe's Leading City Destination 2021 and Europe's Leading City Tourist Board 2021. The second prize was awarded to Moscow Committee for Tourism.

Among other Russian participants, St. Petersburg entered the world stage in the World's Leading City Destination 2021 nomination, Aeroflot - Russian Airlines company — in the Airline Brand nomination and the Moscow hotel Swissôtel Krasnye Kholmy — in the World's Leading Luxury Business Hotel 2021 nomination.

The World Travel Awards are granted in more than 80 categories since 1993. The winners can be hotels, airlines, tour operators, cities, resorts and city attractions.

Previously Moscow received world stage awards twice. The first award came in 2019 — Moscow was a laureate in the World’s Leading City Destination nomination — the Russian capital won the open vote, competing with the largest megalopolises, including New York, Paris and London. In 2020, Moscow managed to repeat its success.
