Reconstruction of the Syromyatnichesky tunnel preserves its beauty and uniqueness — Sergei Sobyanin

The tram tunnel in Syromyatnichesky lane will be reconstructed. Sergei Sobyanin commented on this in his blog.
The tunnel was built in the 19th century and is one of the most picturesque corners of historical Moscow. But the tunnel top bears the MCD-2 ground metro line. Additional tracks of the future MCD-4 will also be laid here to reduce the train traffic interval.
“We rejected the original design decision. Designers were instructed to find a solution that would preserve the beauty of the tunnel and solve the problem of developing commuter traffic. And the tunnel itself should be put in order too,” Moscow Mayor emphasized.

According to the new project, the original intersection of tram lines — unique for Moscow — will be preserved.
“We requested the Russian Railways to reconstruct the tunnel as carefully as possible. We will closely monitor this project,” Sergei Sobyanin added.
