Sergei Sobyanin: First heart transplantation performed in Botkin Hospital
The surgery to transplant a donor heart took only 190 minutes, the shortest time possible.

Heart transplantation was performed in the Botkin Hospital for the first time. The doctors managed to save a life. Sergei Sobyanin mentioned this on his Telegram channel.

“A large team of specialists was involved in the transplantation such as cardiac surgeons, cardiovascular surgeons, transplantologists, perfusionists, intensivists, nurses. Connection of the donor heart was done as fast as possible, in 190 minutes,” the Moscow Mayor said.

The 58-year-old man had chronic heart failure which could not be treated. The patient lived risking sudden death. He was brought to the hospital by the ambulance, and the operation was his only chance to live.

“The body adaptation to the new heart is under special control of cardiologists and immunologists now,” Sergei Sobyanin said.

Organ and tissue transplantations in the Botkin Hospital have been performed since 2018. The clinic currently conducts kidney, liver, cornea, and bone marrow transplantations. Over a thousand transplantations have been performed in the hospital by now.

Such complex operations have become reality not only due to the professionalism of medical staff, but the complete re-equipment of the Botkin Hospital as well. In recent years, over 13 thousand units of modern medical equipment have been purchased for the hospital, including surgery racks and endoscopy towers, heart-lung machines, surgical instruments for cardiovascular and cardiological surgery.
