Sergei Sobyanin: A new waterfront pedestrian route has debuted in Mnevniki Floodplain

The Mnevniki Floodplain has got a new waterfront pedestrian route, as shared by Sergei Sobyanin on his MAX channel.
“The walking path is laid out on a boardwalk, with more than 1,600 piles and a metal framework atop that form a solid foundation. Its surface is made of decking boards resistant to moisture, temperature fluctuations, and UV radiation,” the Moscow Mayor writes.

Seven recreation areas with benches, pergolas, and viewing platforms are set up by the river, while on the upper level there is a relaxation area with a sculpture, a children’s playground,
and trendy cutting-edge energy-saving streetlights, architectural illumination adding a touch of comfort and warmth.
The steep slopes leading to the river are reinforced with biodegradable grass seed mats enabling soil erosion control and promoting the rapid establishment of green cover, even on challenging grounds.
The pedestrian route is accessible from the upper street level via three staircases, while residents with reduced mobility can make use of the ramp.
“The route will continue along a newly landscaped embankment stretching to the beach south of the Krylatsky Bridge. We will lay out pedestrian paths and build playgrounds and viewing platforms there. At the moment, contractors are doing spadework,” Sergei Sobyanin notes.

The embankment adjoins a bicycle and pedestrian bridge currently under construction, to connect the Mnevniki Floodplain area with Krylatskoye. As soon as the bridge is ready, both banks of the Moskva River will be covered by continuous pedestrian and cycling routes.
