Restoration of the Sytniy Dvor in Kolomenskoe completed — Mayor of Moscow

The revival of the Kolomenskoe estate ensemble continues — the restoration of the Sytniy Dvor has been completed. Sergei Sobyanin wrote about the news on his channel on the messenger MAX.

“The building is located in the heart of the historical part of the museum-reserve, next to the Church of the Ascension of the Lord and the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and together with other buildings forms part of the unified ensemble of this former royal estate,” said the Mayor of Moscow.

The Sytniy Dvor was erected in the 17 th century as part of the country residence of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, the father of Peter the Great. It was a one-story building with several stone chambers where bread was baked, supplies were stored, and wines, kvass, fish and meat dishes were prepared. In the 1760s, a second storey was added to the Sytniy Dvor. Then it served various practical functions, being used as a hotel in the second half of the 19 th century, after which it became a zemstvo (local council) school.

In the course of a year, specialists restored the facades of the monument, rebuilt the stucco cornice in some areas and the raised band above the basement. The white stone steps, walls and ceilings, wooden windows and doors, and brick and parquet flooring were all restored. Technical systems were also installed in the building to enable it to be used as an exhibition center.

Recently, work was also completed on the preservation of Peter the Great’s house and the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, a unique 16 th century building listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Now visitors can also see the Sytniy Dvor, a special place with an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. In December, a temporary exhibition, The Romanovs — From Peterhof to Moscow, will open in the building.
