Restoration of two grottoes in the Kuzminki estate has been completed — Sergei Sobyanin

The restoration work in the architectural ensemble of Moscow’s Kuzminki estate continues. The news was announced by Sergei Sobyanin in a post on his channel in the MAX messenger.

“We have already completed the restoration of the Three-Arched and the Great grottoes. Both can now be viewed by visitors. The specialists cleaned and did waterproofing work on the structures and installed a drainage system. The brickwork, white stone and rusticated stone masonry were restored. We renewed the metal fence and the perimeter paving,” wrote the Mayor of Moscow.

The grottoes, designed by the architect Domenico Gilardi, were built by the side of the Upper Kuzminsky Pond in the first third of the 19 th century. Amateur theatrical productions were held in the Great Grotto, and the Three-Arched Grotto was used for recreation.

Other important structures on the estate have also been restored. The figural lanterns and griffin sculptures were returned to their historic location on the Arched Bridge. The specialists cleared them of dirt and paint, and replenished lost elements.

Now 10 more cultural heritage sites are being restored in the estate. All the work is scheduled for completion in 2027.
