One third of the domestic tourists were visitors from other regions of the Central Federal District, another 17–18 percent traveled from Saint-Petersburg, the Khanty-Mansiysk and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs, Krasnodar Krai, Tatarstan and Sverdlovsk Region. Citizens of China and the Middle East have begun to choose Moscow more often for their trips.

Visitors are attracted by the historic city center and landscaped parks, as well as VDNKh. In addition, the city’s colorful festivals and international business events help to promote tourism.

In 2024, three-, four- and five-star hotels in the capital reported an average of 78 percent occupancy, and during large-scale events this figure at times exceeded 90 percent.

The tourist industry contributes some 225 billion rubles to the capital’s budget. The funds help to make the city even more comfortable for residents and more attractive for guests, added Sergei Sobyanin.
