Moscow mayor: 25 tunnels, flyovers, bridges and overpasses built in 2024
Over the past year, the road framework of Moscow has become more than 100 kilometers. Sergei Sobyanin announced this news via his blog.
“25 new tunnels, flyovers, bridges and overpasses appeared on the Moscow map, as well as 15 new crosswalks,” the Mayor of Moscow wrote.
In March, after the reconstruction, traffic on the interchange at the intersection of the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) with Verkhniye Polya Street was opened, increasing its capacity by 1.5 times. At the same time, an overpass over the tracks of the third Moscow Central Diameter of the MCD near Sheremetyevo Airport, an interchange on the highway towards the airport, an overpass — an exit from the International Highway to the Leningradskoye Highway towards the city center, as well as an exit from the Leningradskoye Highway from the center to the International Highway towards the M-11 Neva highway appeared.
“In July, a pedestrian bridge connecting the arrow of Balchug Island and Krymskaya embankment was opened. The island became part of a picturesque pedestrian route along the Moscow River, which starts on the Vorobyovy Gory and ends at the House of Culture ‘HPP-2’”, Sergei Sobyanin said.
In August the construction of the next section of the route Solntsevo — Butovo — Varshavskoye highway was completed, extending it from the metro station “Novomoskovskaya” to Edvarda Griga Street.
September was the month of openings. At that time a bicycle & pedestrian bridge across the Yauza River appeared, connecting the facilities of the university cluster of the Moscow State Technical University named after N.E. Bauman located on both banks of the river. In addition, the program of reconstruction of interchanges on the Moscow Ring Road was completed, opening traffic on the Altufievskaya interchange. The outdated cloverleaf type interchange was replaced by modern directional exits with a higher capacity.
The first phase of the Kaluga Highway doubletrack — the Mamyri — Penino — Sharapovo highway (Novomikhailovskoye Highway) in TiNAO was also opened in September. The road improved the transportation accessibility for 320,000 people living in Kommunarka, Filimonkovsky District and Troitsk.
“We launched a section of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter from the Moscow Ring Road to the Varshavskoye Highway, including a tunnel, a flyover with an exit from the Moscow High-Speed Diameter to the Simferopolskoye Highway towards the region and a road bridge over the Bitza River,” the Mayor of Moscow said.
In early December, an overpass was opened near Beskudnikovo railway station over the MCD-1 tracks connecting the Northern and North-Eastern districts of Moscow, and just before the New Year, a new road tunnel was opened under the tracks of Moscow's fourth Central Diameter connecting Dvintsev and Skladochnaya Streets, as well as Butyrsky District and Maryina Roshcha.
At the end of December, a 231-meter-long automobile bridge across the Moscow River near Myasishcheva Street was opened. It connected not only two districts (Filevsky Park and Khoroshevo-Mnevniki), but also two districts (Western Administrative District and North-Western Administrative District). The new bridge will allow residents to comfortably get to the Mnevniki station of the Big Circle Line of the metro and will connect the territory of the Mnevniki floodplain with the National Space Center. One crosswalk was also opened.
“We extended the MCD to the Varshavskoye highway with an overpass — an exit from the inner side of the Moscow Ring Road towards the Moscow region and a tunnel under the Simferopol highway, as well as two crosswalks. We plan to fully complete the implementation of this project with the construction of the final transport link at the intersection with the road Solntsevo — Butovo — Varshavskoye highway in the summer of 2025,” Sergei Sobyanin added.
Our plans for the next two years include building about 170 kilometers of roads and 31 artificial structures. They consist of one bridge, one flyover, one overpass, and 32 pedestrian crossings.
