Sergei Sobyanin announced plans to develop Moscow trams in 2025
Last year more than 190 million trips were made on trams. This is almost 20 percent more than in 2023.

The capital's tram fleet has been renewed almost completely. In the coming years, the city will purchase 100 new trams of the latest generation, manufactured in Russia. Sergei Sobyanin told about how this type of urban transportation is changing in his Telegram channel.

“Over 190 million trips were made on trams last year. This is almost 20 percent more than in 2023. We continue to integrate trams into the rail framework of the city, successfully complementing the existing metro, MCC and MCD lines. Since the beginning of 2024, more than 15 kilometers of tram tracks have been upgraded for smooth running and noise reduction.”

In September last year, the line on Sergia Radonezhskogo Street was opened. There appeared a new route No. 2 from the 3rd Vladimirskaya Street to Kurskiy railway station of Moscow. Thus, more than 700,000 people received additional comfortable options for traveling around the capital.

At the same time, the city started to restore the tracks on Trifonovskaya Street between Obraztsova Street and Rizhskaya Square. A new section of the tram network will also appear on Gilyarovsky Street — from Trifonovskaya Street to Rizhskaya Square. Movement here is scheduled to open already this year.

In addition, the plans for 2025 include the launch of trams along Akademika Sakharova Avenue between Komsomolskaya Square and Chistoprudny Boulevard.  Thanks to this solution it will be possible to connect two separate tram segments and create new diametrical routes through the center. In particular, it will be possible to get from Sokolniki to Paveletsky Railway Station of Moscow by streetcar without transfers.
