This September the authorities launched the first Troitskaya line section, its next stage to wrap up in 2025.

In 2024, Moscow achieved great results in strengthening its transport, Sergei Sobyanin shared on the TV Center and Moscow 24 channels.

In 2024, among other things, the authorities took efforts to build up the capital's metro, renewing the fleet for even better passenger experience.

“When we started this project, we had 13 per cent new metro train cars. Now they make 75 per cent, only 25 per cent left. Yet these are thousands of train cars, colossal expenses, a huge amount of work done by machine builders. We are also systematically moving towards renewing all metro cars, gradually, line by line, switching to new metro cars. I think that by 2030 we will have renewed more than 90 per cent of the fleet,” says the Moscow Mayor.

In addition, they were building many new stations throughout the year. For example, in September 2024, they launched the first section of the Troitskaya metro line. Sergei Sobyanin said itsnext stage would be completed in 2025.

“As long as the city lives, the metro will continue to expand. At least, that is what the history suggests. At one time construction slowed down, at another it sped up. Now it is progressing really very fast, overtaking the Soviet-era pace. Because at first, there was a period when we lagged behind in the development of transport infrastructure, especially the metro and, of course, today Muscovites are happy to see new stations. These are not some kind of, you know, walk-through, standard, or dull stations, but rather first-class stations. First-class in respect of their quality and architecture,” the Moscow Mayor stressed.

He also mentioned that Moscow was running two more major transport projects. One of them is the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya line project to wrap up in 2026–2027.

“The next metro line is Biryulyovskaya. Residents have been asking for it for a long time. We are actively working on design, preparing the site and installing engineering systems. I think that by 2030 the job will essentially be done, too,” shares Sergei Sobyanin.

Much has also been done to drive river transport. According to the Moscow Mayor, in 2024, scheduled electric boats, unique both in Russia and globally, are really popular with residents and tourists.

“Muscovites really love to ride them, so we will extend these routes. For this purpose, we are even completing the construction of a riverboat plant. Next year, I hope, we will launch it and start building riverboats in Moscow. And then we will gradually replace all the boats that ply across the Moscow River so that they are all electric and our Moscow River is much cleaner than it is today,” Sergei Sobyanin shares.

He also noted that in the near future the authorities would strengthen control over taxis by introducing mandatory certification of drivers to check their knowledge of the city and passenger service rules in order to minimize road accidents involving taxis.
