Moscow Mayor: MHSD additional section in the south of Moscow will open in 2026
Construction of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter (MHSD) section is currently underway. The road will run along Kaspiyskaya Street from Kantemirovskaya Street to the Moscow Railway Paveletsky Line.
“We have embarked on a very complex project that was delayed for a long time because we were not able to complete the development of the area. We are reconstructing Kaspiyskaya Street, which will be part of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter. This work will involve construction of several tunnels, overpasses and interchanges. The project is complicated, but it will generally improve traffic in six districts in the south of Moscow, straighten the Moscow High-Speed Diameter and reduce travel time along the line by about seven to eight minutes,” said Sergei Sobyanin during an inspection of the MHSD section under construction.
According to him, experts will reach Lipetskaya Street in 2025 and Kantemirovskaya Street in 2026 to complete the development of this Moscow High-Speed Diameter section.
The MHSD additional section will eliminate up to two kilometers of excess travel to improve transport services for about 700 thousand residents of the south of Moscow (Tsaritsyno, Orekhovo-Borisovo Severnoye, Moskvorechye-Saburovo, Biryulyovo Zapadnoye, Biryulyovo Vostochnoye and Chertanovo Tsentralnoye).
Improve transport service and reduce travel time
Specialists will reduce the traffic congestion of the MHSD section from Proektiruemy Proyezd No. 5108 as far as Kantemirovskaya Street, to Kantemirovskaya Street and Kaspiyskaya Street and build an additional exit to the M-4 Don Motorway from the MHSD via Lipetskaya Street.
Construction of the straight line (additional section) of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter along Kaspiyskaya Street from Kantemirovskaya Street to the Moscow Railway Paveletsky Line started in August 2023.
The six-lane road, approximately four kilometers long (in a straight line without exits onto adjacent streets), starts from Kantemirovskaya Street, runs along Kaspiyskaya Street and along the tracks of the second Moscow Central Diameter (MCD-2), and crosses Medikov, Erevanskaya, Luganskaya, Sevanskaya and Bakinskaya Streets.
The section will include six artificial structures with a total length of over two kilometers:
— a tunnel along the MHSD main route at the intersection with Bakinskaya Street (58 meters, 3 one-way traffic lanes);
— two overpasses — exits from Lipetskaya Street to the MHSD main route towards Kashirskoye Motorway and Simferopolskoye Motorway (1 kilometer, 1 or 2 one-way traffic lanes);
— two overpasses — exits from Kaspiyskaya Street to the MHSD main route towards the Moscow Ring Road and the center (709 meters, 1 one-way traffic lane);
— an overpass — exit from the MHSD to Kaspiyskaya Street (294 meters, 1 one-way traffic lane).
In addition, exits from Bakinskaya Street to the MHSD and back towards the M-4 Don Motorway (1.1 kilometers, 1 one-way traffic lane) are set to be constructed.
At the intersection with Erevanskaya Street, experts will construct a terminal station building for land public transport
and reconstruct the adjacent street and road network (684 meters).
In total, the section will include 6.8 kilometers of roads, built and reconstructed. As part of the landscaping of the adjacent area, lawns will be laid over the area of six hectares.
Construction of the section from Sevanskaya Street (next to the MCD-2 Tsaritsyno station) to the Moscow Railway Paveletsky Line is currently underway. The design of the section from Medikov Street to Sevanskaya Street is nearing completion. The project completion is planned for 2026.
Full traffic along the Moscow High-Speed Diameter main route was launched on September 9, 2023. Motorists are able to travel from the north to the east of Moscow from the Businovskaya interchange to the M-12 Motorway, and to the south to the 32 nd kilometer of the Moscow Ring Road.
With the MHSD, travel time in some directions has been cut by 25 to 50 per cent, and the traffic congestion of the Garden Ring, Third Ring Road and Moscow Ring Road sections has been relieved up to 15 per cent.
Construction of two road facilities that will improve the efficiency of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter is to be completed in several years:
— section from the 32 nd kilometer of the Moscow Ring Road to the Solntsevo — Butovo — Varshavskoye Motorway road (7.8 kilometers, with four artificial structures and pedestrian crossings);
— section along Kaspiyskaya Street from Kantemirovskaya Street to the Moscow Railway Paveletsky Line (6.8 kilometers, with six artificial structures).
According to Mikhail Grigoryev, Chief Operating Officer of Roads and Bridges JSC, five overpasses are currently under construction, three of which, with the total length of 300 meters, are already 80 per cent complete.
“Metalworks have been purchased to build two overpasses over the railway. We commence the work within the next month,” said Mikhail Grigoryev.
Main storm drains have been installed in the two most difficult areas. A 300-meter-long sewer is being installed. By the end of 2025, specialists will have started landscaping the area and arranging green spaces with more than six hectares of artificial grass.
“The Moscow High-Speed Diameter is now one of the three most popular lines in the city. It is used by about 400 thousand cars daily. “The additional section will make travel along the line even faster and more comfortable,” the Moscow Mayor wrote on his Telegram channel.

New roads of Moscow
Between 2011 and 2023, the Moscow Government constructed 1,360 kilometers of lines, which is about a quarter of the existing street and road network. 429 new tunnels, overpasses and bridges were commissioned, thus having increased the number of artificial transport structures by 65 per cent. On top of that, 313 off-street pedestrian crossings were built.
The action plan for 2024 encompasses construction of 95 kilometers of roads, 35 artificial structures and nine pedestrian crossings. The main facilities commissioned this year are:
— intersections of the Moscow Ring Road with Verkhnie Polya Street and Altufyevskoye Motorway;
— connection road between the MHSD and the Solntsevo — Butovo — Varshavskoye Motorway road (part of the section from the Moscow Ring Road to the Simferopolskoye Motorway);
— the Solntsevo — Butovo — Varshavskoye Motorway road section from Novomoskovskaya metro station to Edvarda Griga Street;
— overpass in the area of the 24 th and 25 th kilometers of the Leningradskoye Motorway (opened for traffic in March 2024);
— alternate road for the Kaluzhskoye Motorway.
Plans for 2025–2026 include construction of over 170 kilometers of roads, over 30 artificial structures and over 30 pedestrian crossings.
